AntiCancer Inc. (headquartered in the United States) is a biotech venture founded in 1984 in San Diego, California, by Robert M. Hoffman, a professor at the University of California, San Diego School of Medicine, aimed at the research, development, and sales of anti-cancer drugs and diagnostic agents. The company has 38 employees, of which 20 hold doctoral degrees or are medical doctors. While it has traditionally emphasized its activities in Japan, considering the future potential of the biotechnology and pharmaceutical market in Japan, it established AntiCancer Japan, Inc. on November 27, 2006. In April 2007, it built a P2 level research facility in Ibaraki City, Osaka Prefecture. The lab conducts research and development using its unique technology of in vivo imaging with small animals utilizing fluorescent proteins (green fluorescent protein (GFP) and red fluorescent protein (RFP)), and showcases small animal models.
